A little background on Ferndown:
Ferndown has the highest population of any inland town in Dorset. The name probably comes from the Anglo Saxon word Fiergen meaning wooded hill. It is surrounded by heathland, part of which is called Ferndown Common. English Nature and the Herpetological Society manage this area to help preserve local rare wildlife. Church of All Saints in Stapehill is a Grade II listed building.
